Getting started with The Entrepreneur Vault
This Obsidian template is designed to keep entrepreneur's organised without needing to think about it.
The Entrepreneur Vault combines a simple structure (Hubs, Deliverables, Resources, Archive) with dashboards and lightweight automations, so you can capture fast, stay focused, and find things again when you need them.
To begin
1) Create your Hubs first
Start by creating your Hubs (your ongoing areas like Product, Marketing, Fundraising, Ops). Do this first, because Deliverables live under Hubs.
Use the Add Hub button from the home page. A dashboard and relevant folders are then created to keep your work tidy.
2) Capture first, organise later
Use quick capture from the homepage to save things as you work — ideas, links, articles, fleeting thoughts, opportunities, ideas for experiments, and random action items.
Using these buttons will save them into the right location and you can revisit them later.
The goal is to keep momentum, then sort later when you have a moment. And to not forget about that useful link you were sent in an email.
3) Add tasks
Next, create your tasks in your backlog. You can choose what type of task this is:
- A simple one-off action item
- An experiment
- A deliverable (a collection of action items)
- An opportunity (things maybe in a year you will do)
If you would like to add detail to the task. You can click the option to “Update task” and then turn into a task note. This does not commit the task, but creates a space to dump some info you may need to store for later.
When you are ready to commit to a task, hit “Update task” and select “Commit a task”. When a deliverable or experiment is created, they are marked by a hashtag. When you commit these, then they are moved out of the backlog and into the main Deliverable folder. Each Deliverable gets its own dashboard too, so related notes, tasks, and progress stay connected and easy to review.
4) Reflect and plan
Use the weekly and quarterly reflection and planning to not lose track of direction. First plan your quarterly direction, then the weekly will pull from this.
The simple weekly check-in helps you prioritise what matters next, and longer-term planning keeps deliverables aligned to real goals. It will then show what you planned on the homepage.
5) Archive
When something is done or no longer active, archive it. Run the #Archive command (from command palette) and it will automatically be pushed into the archive, and the same folder structure preserved. This keeps dashboards clean while preserving everything for future reference.
You can also Archive an entire Deliverable or Hub by running the command while on a dashboard.
6) Customise
Change colours, change prompt wording, add YAML, tweak templates, and build new workflows. Make it perfect for your needs!
